Ode to Orillia, Our new Hometown
Orillia will thrill ya,
That’s what we heard them say,
Nicknamed the ‘Sunshine City’,
It’s really made us stay.
Sporting the Mariposa Music Festival,
Baked goods from the Mariposa Market,
Summer home to Stephen Leacock,
And Golden Leaves sculpture in honour of home grown native,
Internationally acclaimed musician, Gordon Lightfoot.
(Big breath in) Not only that!
From jazz and blues festivals, and the Beatles honoured too!
Leslie Fournier and her Streets Alive! Program honouring local artists Woo!
There’s OMAH, OPP, and the biggest library we’ve ever seen,
Don’t forget the Opera House rumoured to be a haunted house.
There’s our welcoming Chamber of Commerce, BNI, Kiwanis, Rotary, Probus, and many more service clubs that raise monies and support for our community members,
more than we’ve ever seen in one small city!
The Lightfoot hiking trail, Bass Lake and Mara Provincial Parks,
Scout’s Valley, Grant’s Woods;
Couchiching and Tudhope Parks for long walks by the lake,
And above all else, it’s a ‘green city’ with fresh air, too!
Animals abound from bears to beavers, Canadian Geese, Trumpeter Swans and foxes. Boo!
Orillia is home to an eclectic group of people from famous
Artisans and actors to musicians, writers, dancers, philanthropists, and very caring, supportive people. Phew!
Well, we couldn’t be happier to say,
in fact, we’re telling you here today,
after five years since our move,
we know we’ve finally found our groove.
Thank you Orillia, for welcoming us into your community!
