Chiropractic is my Passion

When I was a young boy I often watched my dad come home from work with a
broad smile on his face. He would say, happily, “I helped many patients today.”
At the age of ten years old, I can recall watching him shave one morning before
he headed off to work at his Chiropractic office. I was thinking about what I might
want to do for a career when I got older. I asked my dad if he thought I might like
being a Chiropractor. I’ll never forget his answer. He said, “Kevin, if you like
helping people you will enjoy being a chiropractor and I’m sure you’ll be a great
one.” Early on in my practice, I would treat some of his former patients and the
best compliment I could ever hear was that they felt I was ‘just like him.’ Fast
forward to today, seeing a patient’s face when they explain how sore they are and
how the pain is limiting what they can do, gives me purpose as I feel I can help
them.
Patients often say to me, “Whenever I get up from sitting, I have this sharp pain.”
or “Every day after a few hours on my computer I get headaches.” or “My neck is
so stiff in the morning I can’t drive.” As Chiropractors, we have an enviable
success rate, helping most people with complaints like these.
Shortly after starting my career as a Chiropractor, I met my loving wife, Lee Anne,
who later joined me in my practice and brought a whole new side to helping
patients. She was once a medical librarian and was also passionate about
wellness, from healthy eating, to exercise, to stress management. In addition to
my technical expertise as a Chiropractor, Lee Anne was able to add depth by
being more in tune with patients’ needs and subtle cries for help. Together, we
are so much more than helping with muscle and joint pains. Every day we get to
motivate people to be more active, how to be more careful – walking on ice, how
to avoid cramps in bed at night, and what they can do at home to be more
comfortable are just a few examples. I love helping patients live a pain-free
lifestyle through adjustments and prescribing exercises.
At Matheson Chiropractic Clinic, we help support patients not only through their
current pain, but with some better lifestyle choices, too. What a pleasure it is to
help people. My Dad was right! Here’s to Dr. Murdoch Matheson who passed
away over 15 years ago. Long gone but we’ve never forgotten. May he Forever
RIP.
